The skin is the largest part of the human body and it is integral that we pay close attention to the needs of our skin.
I have learnt over the years that it is important that we are mindful of what we feed our skin with.
This is why I am very particular about the composition of each skin care product I purchase.
Aside knowing what and what not to feed your skin with, knowing your skin type is also very important as it helps you make the right decisions in picking skin care products.
I have an oily face and a normal skin and so for my skin care products you will find me going for products that will control the oily face while staying clear off products which will strip my skin of these oils.
I know! Oily skin can be annoying sometimes but you really don’t want to get rid of the oils because they are useful to a large extent.
Well! Well! Well!! today I want to share with you the essentials we all need in our skin care routine. Interesting right??!! I am excited too! Lets get into it already.
• Facial Wash
Who else hates to have his or her face covered with a layer of dirt and grime? Making it a habit to wash your face on a daily basis is a very important step you shouldn’t miss as part of your skin care routine.
There is no doubt that throughout our daily lives dirt, bacteria, and dead skin cells covers our skin.
My experience has taught me that washing my face daily gives me a radiant look and on top of it all it goes a long way to help with the removal of dirt, sebum and bacteria if any. I am currently having a fab experience with the Advantage Clear and Soothe Foaming Wash from Clean & Clear which is actually oil-free and infused with natural aloe Vera.
Exfoliation is basically the physical one chemical process of getting rid of dead and dulling skin cells. It is important to exfoliate your skin to prevent dead skin cells from getting trapped on the skin’s surface. Failing to include exfoliation in your skin care regimen will enable the trapped skin cells to build up.
Such build ups will only go a long way to lead you to having clogged pores, dark spots, rough skin texture, dryness and dullness.
You however need not aggressively exfoliate your skin. Because I have oily skin I tend to exfoliate twice in a week , but it is ideal that someone with dry skin exfoliates once in a week .
I am currently hooked onto the Hibiscus Sugar Scrub from Skin Gourmet GH.

A toner in the cosmetic world is basically a lotion or wash that is designed to cleanse the skin and also to shrink the appearance of pores.
Toners are also great for getting rid of impurities left behind on your skin after washing. This includes make up, excess oils , residue left from the cleanser, and dead skin cells.
You should not that using a tone should be the next step after cleansing.
Rose Water is my go to toner at the moment.
Face masks are totally great for the skin and it will do you some good if you incorporate it in your skin care regimen. It is one easy way out to getting your skin to feel supple within the shortest time.
The good thing about face masks is that they are designed to suit your skin type that is why it is essential to know what your skin type is. It is easy to apply and is very beneficial to your skin.
Face masks work to refine your pores ,by deep cleansing and cleaning the pores of dead skin cells, metabolic wastes and sebum.
Making your skin appear firmer, increasing hydration and diminishing fine lines are other benefits you stand to gain when you include face masks in your skin care routine.
Face Serums are designed to help the skin retain moisture. However we need to be clear on the fact that face serums are not moisturizers. Often times face serums are confused with face oils but they are different things altogether. Serums maybe oil-based or water-based.
In applying a serum i make sure that it goes onto my face before i go ahead to apply my moisturizer. I use the Body Shop Vitamin E Night Serum from bodyshopgh. Serums are definitely worth investing in if you ask me!.
Having my skin feeling damp and dehydrated puts me in a real bad mood, I bet you feel the same way too.
Getting to learn about the right things to feed my skin with has come a long way to help me achieve healthy and glowing skin. And one of the things that has actually worked for me is including a moisturizer in my regimen.
Moisturizing is one step no one should miss. Did you know that you reduce the chances of getting skin problems if you have the habit of applying a moisturizer?
Make sure to use a moisturizer which works well for your skin type. This will help your skin maintain it’s balance.
Moisturizing gets your skin to have a healthy sheen which has the potential to even out any existing blemishes.
Knowing that I have oily skin I decided to go in for Black Opal Even TrueOil- Free Moisturizing Lotion with SPF 15, from BodyBasics- Accra Mall Branch for GHC 80 and it works pretty good for me. If you seem to have dry skin I will suggest that you look out for moisturizers with a creamy consistency as they tend to have higher oil content.
